Types of business websites

When someone tells me "I need a website", the first thing I ask is: "why do you need it?". Because a site to show professional services is not the same as an online store, or a landing page to capture leads from a specific campaign. Choosing the right type from the start saves money, time and headaches.

1. Institutional or corporate site

It is the "digital cover letter" of a business or company. It includes home pages, about the company, services, contact and sometimes blog. Its main objective is to provide credibility, inform potential clients and generate contacts or inquiries.

Ideal for: professional firms (accountants, lawyers, architects), service companies (electricians, plumbers, designers), businesses with physical premises, independent professionals.

2. Landing page

A single page with a single objective: convert the visitor into a potential customer. It does not have a navigation menu with multiple pages: all the information leads to a specific action (fill out a form, call, buy). They are very effective for advertising campaigns on Google Ads or social networks.

Ideal for: launch of a specific product, advertising campaigns, capturing leads for courses or events, sale of a specific service.

3. Online store (e-commerce)

A website with a product catalog, shopping cart and integrated payment gateway. It allows you to sell physical or digital products directly from the site. It requires greater investment in development and maintenance, but enables a 24/7 source of income.

Ideal for: clothing stores, accessories, books, handmade products, any business that wants to sell online at Uruguay or export.

"Choosing the right type of website is as important as the design: a well-designed site of the wrong type will not meet its objectives."

4. Blog or content site

Aimed at publishing articles, news or educational content on a regular basis. The main objective is to attract organic traffic from Google, position for keywords and build an audience. Many corporate sites integrate a blog as a SEO content strategy.

5. Portfolio or job site

Show completed work, completed projects or a gallery of creations. It is key for creative professionals: graphic designers, photographers, architects, developers. Visual presentation is essential.

6. Membership or community site

Users register to access exclusive content: online courses, private communities, specialized publications. They require authentication and user management logic. They are more complex to develop but can generate recurring income.
