Web design evolves quickly. What three years ago was avant-garde today may be seen as outdated, and what seems radical today in 2028 will be the standard. As a web design studio at Uruguay, we are constantly attentive to global trends to filter out which ones really work for local businesses and which ones are just a fad. In 2026, there are concrete changes that make a difference.
Dark mode has gone from being an “accessibility option” to becoming the dominant style in technology, digital services, and modern brands. More than 80% of smartphone users have it activated by default. A well-executed dark design conveys modernity, sophistication and reduces eye strain. In 2026, the question isn't "do I make a dark version?" but "when do I adopt the dark design as a base?"
Glassmorphism (elements with the appearance of frosted glass: translucent, with blur and subtle edges) continues to be one of the most used aesthetics in modern interfaces. Combined with dark backgrounds and neon or gradient elements, it creates a feeling of depth and premium that communicates innovation. It works especially well for cards, modals, and secondary elements that want to stand out without competing with the main content.
Micro-interactions are small animations that respond to the user's actions: a button that changes color and scales slightly when hovering, a menu that slides smoothly, an icon that animates when clicked. They are not decorative: they are visual feedback that improves the perception of quality and guides the user. In 2026, a website without micro-interactions feels static and outdated. The key is that they are subtle and do not impact loading speed.
"The best trends are not the most striking: they are those that improve the user experience in an imperceptible but effective way."
Gradients are back with everything, but evolved: they are no longer the flat gradients of the 2000s but rather complex combinations of vibrant colors (especially on dark backgrounds), gradients in texts and borders, and glow or neon effects that give energy and character to the elements. At Uruguay, we see more and more brands using gradients as their visual signature, differentiating themselves from competitors with flatter, more generic designs.
Typography is no longer just text: it is a design element in itself. XXL titles that fill the entire screen, fonts with a strong personality and the creative use of spacing and alignment are setting the style of the most impactful websites of 2026. This approach works especially well for the home screen (hero section), where the goal is to have an emotional impact in the first seconds.
The "Mobile First" approach is no longer new, but in 2026 the difference is between websites that simply "adapt" to mobile and websites that are genuinely designed for the small screen experience first. This means: large, easy-to-touch buttons, thumb-friendly menus, images optimized for mobile connections, and conversion flows (forms, CTAs) designed specifically for mobile.
Artificial intelligence is changing how websites are designed, not the final result but the process. By 2026, design studios that integrate AI tools (to generate initial wireframes, create design variations, generate base visual content, or automate repetitive parts of the process) will deliver projects in less time and with more iterations. At MSK Estudio Web we integrate AI into our workflow to spend more time on what really matters: strategy and personalization.
Excessive parallax: impressive in designer portfolios, problematic for SEO and mobile experience.
Very long entrance animations- The user wants to see the content, not wait 3 seconds for an effect to load.
Complex custom cursors- Degrade the experience on many devices and browsers.
Decorative fonts in the body of text: nice in titles, illegible in paragraphs.
